Fleet auxiliary and transport refrigeration
Auxiliary power units and transport-refrigeration engines across a vehicle fleet.
The problem
A fleet runs many similar small engines — auxiliary power units, transport-refrigeration units — each burning fuel away from the depot where nobody is watching a gauge. The cost is spread thin and hard to see, and the units are hard to standardise.
Engine envelope
- Fuels
- Diesel auxiliary and refrigeration engines.
- Power band
- Small auxiliary units up to roughly 50 kW.
- Duty cycle
- Intermittent and long-idle, typical of transport auxiliaries.
- Not in envelope
- Not the vehicle traction engine, not electric or hybrid auxiliaries, and not units under a manufacturer service contract that forbids modification.
What a survey includes
- A sample of units across the fleet rather than every one.
- The engine make, model, and rating for each unit type.
- The duty pattern and typical run hours.
- How a unit can be taken out of service for fitting without grounding the vehicle.
How we measure
We do not quote a figure before we have seen your engine. We measure your engine before and after fitting, under a protocol agreed with you, on your fuel and your load — and we give you those measurements.
