Standby and prime power plant
Standby and continuous generating sets on industrial and institutional sites.
The problem
A standby or prime-power set runs on a fixed site under a known load, and its exhaust is a fixed part of the building services. The operator carries the running cost and the local air-quality obligations, and has little room to change the engine itself.
Engine envelope
- Fuels
- Diesel and dual-fuel compression-ignition sets.
- Power band
- Roughly 20 kVA to 2 MVA single sets; larger by survey.
- Duty cycle
- Standby, peak-lopping, and continuous prime power.
- Not in envelope
- Not gas-turbine sets, not spark-ignition gas engines, and not sets whose exhaust cannot be safely interrupted for fitting.
What a survey includes
- A site visit to see the set, its exhaust run, and the space around it.
- The engine make, model, rating, hours, and duty pattern.
- The exhaust geometry and where a retrofit can be fitted safely.
- Access, isolation, and how the set can be taken offline for the work.
How we measure
We do not quote a figure before we have seen your engine. We measure your engine before and after fitting, under a protocol agreed with you, on your fuel and your load — and we give you those measurements.
